I'll Be There For You

Many people have heard of or seen the TV show Friends. It is a show from '94 to '04 consisting of six friends who have a lot going, usually something that has to do with their job, a relationship, or family. In the image above we see (from left to right) Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey.

Usually in the episodes Joey, being the smooth guy in the group, tries to hook up with a female in the show and everything is okay. In some episodes where Rachel is the one going after a guy she is portrayed as easy and many other mean words. Why is this? Simply because Joey is a male and in society it is okay if a male goes out after a women, but when a female does it, it's not okay. People judge her and say she's "going around".
In addition to Rachel, she went out with Ross a couple times and is seen as an indecisive woman, who does not know what she wants from a man. Ross is shown as a sensitive guy, who really cares about Rachel, but he has been divorced three times. So, who really is the indecisive one?

Phoebe is the "dumb blonde" from the six. Why does Phoebe have to be the dumb one? Why can't a male play this part? Society has always cracked jokes about blondes and what better than to add one to the
group of friends.

Lastly, Monica, who is Ross' younger sister, is an OCD needs everything perfect freak. A female is told to be "in the kitchen all day". Monica is a chef, who loves to cook and clean. Men can learn to do this stuff as well. Chandler could of been the OCD man, but no. The producers decided that the best way a person like this could be presented was through a woman. So, Monica was the one to play this role.

In the end woman are portrayed as the easy, dumb, and perfectionist. All things men clearly have as well.
