Pain Killers New Wording (Summary)

In Sabrina Tavernise's article, on New York Times, she explains that the labeling on painkillers will change by the end of the year. The reasoning for this change are to cut down on prescription drug abuse, which has been the rage now-a-days and to detail the long-term effects the drug has.

OxyContin is one of the many prescription drugs that
are highly addictive and is used a lot for
drug abuse.

The issue is that the current wording on the painkiller's label is incorrect. Tavernise states that the labels on painkillers are quite difficult to read and understand.   The label states that the painkiller is either for moderate pain or serve pain. Dr. Douglas Throckmorton explains that moderation to one person can differ to another, same situation with severeness. Therefore, the wording of the label must be more detail and specific. In addition, Tavernise argues that another serious problem with the labels is that they don't state the long-term effects it can have. One of the reasons for this is to find out if the painkiller will have an effect of sensitivity to pain on the patient. The producers have been asked to analyse their drug for any risks.
